U.S. student debt is at a record high, hitting $1.6 trillion in 2019. About 44 million students borrow to pay for college, with the average undergrad borrowing about $30,000.
So, students desperately need help paying for college. Fortunately, many companies and organizations are willing to do their part in helping students by sponsoring scholarships.
And there are many different types of scholarships to suit every student. For example, this week’s featured scholarships are aimed at Latino students, those working to end hunger, and students interested in art or business.
Café Bustelo® El Café del Futuro Scholarship
The Café Bustelo® El Café del Futuro Scholarship is open for 2020 applications. Café Bustelo® has partnered with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) to launch the scholarship and is looking to award 20 scholarships in the amount of $5,000 each to Latino students.
To apply, those interested must submit an application and include an essay about how their Latino heritage, family and community in which they grew up impacted their desire and motivation to obtain a college degree. The essay can be written in Spanish or in English, and it must be less than 800-words long.

Eligibility:
- Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student of Latino descent
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be currently enrolled at a HACU-member institution within the United States, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico
- Must have internet access and a valid e-mail address
The Healthline Stronger Scholarship
Healthline.com, the flagship online health information site of Healthline Media, has teamed up with Feeding America to offer its Stronger Scholarship for 2020. Healthline will award $5,000 each to four exceptional students making an impact on food insecurity.
To apply, those interested must submit an application that includes answers to three essay questions.

Eligibility:
- Must be a current student in pursuit of an undergraduate or graduate degree (as of winter 2020)
- Must be a current U.S. resident
- Must carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 from most recent college transcript
- Must show demonstrated involvement in the advancement of nutrition and/or food security and access to nutrition, either through research, raising awareness, or community building
Ron Bauer Scholarship
Ron Bauer, an entrepreneur and venture capitalist, has launched the Ron Bauer Scholarship program, through which he will award three scholarships in the amount of $1,500, $1,000 and $500 respectively.
To apply, those interested must submit an application, including a 500-word essay that answers a question prompt on a business idea.

The Vigyaa Scholarship
Vigyaa, an online publishing platform, has launched The Vigyaa Scholarship, a bi-annual scholarship designed to encourage students in the United States and Canada to share an inspiring, creative story of their own. Vigyaa is looking to award $2,500 each application period.
To apply, those interested must submit an application, including a 700-word essay answering one of two prompts.

Eligibility:
- Must be enrolled or accepted into an accredited 2- or 4-year undergraduate program in the United States or Canada
- Students may be in high school or in college
TN Nursery Scholarship
Tennessee Wholesale Nursery is offering a $1,500 scholarship to help make education more affordable to one deserving student. Applicants don’t need to be interested in horticulture or botany to be considered for the TN Nursery Scholarship.
To apply, those interested must submit an application, including an essay of 500 words or more describing their motivation, dreams and challenges, among other things.
