Herbert V. Johnson, president and founder of HVJ Associates, Inc., a multi-discipline engineering business with offices across Texas, is currently accepting applications for the 2023 Herbert V. Johnson Family Scholarship.
The Herbert V. Johnson Family Scholarship is meant for the descendants of his parents, Jessie and Sarah L. Johnson.
Johnson believes in the power of education and has made it his mission to help his family realize their full potential.
“This is my chance in life to help my family in a significant way by enabling them to be their best – more fulfilled with increased earning potential, economic stability, personal growth, and self-esteem,” said Johnson.

Johnson was the first in his family to go to college and knows full well not just how education can be a force for change but that financial barriers often stand in the way of obtaining a higher education.
“To be educated is to be powerful – it enables one to live a life of creativity, growth, contribution and fulfillment. Education has been key to the achievements and extraordinary fulfillment that I’ve experienced in life, and I know the challenges firsthand of getting a college education,” said Johnson.
“With finances being one, I want to reduce or eliminate that challenge for my family. So I have set up the Herbert V. Johnson Family Scholarship Fund to help the descendants of my parents, Jessie and Sarah L. Johnson,” he added.
The scholarship benefits not just descendants by birth but also those by marriage and/or adoption who meet certain criteria.
Each year, Johnson awards up to $20,000 to four winners. The scholarship is based on financial need, so the actual award amount varies based on other scholarships and other financial aid resources received by an awardee.
The award may be used to cover annual tuition, room and board, and school books.
Students who meet the scholarship’s eligibility requirements can apply here. Awardees may reapply in succeeding years provided that they meet the scholarship criteria.
Applications are due by June 30, 2023.
