About Herbert V. Johnson
Herbert V. Johnson believes education enables one to live a life of creativity, growth, contribution, and fulfillment. Education has been key to the achievements and extraordinary fulfillment that he has experienced in life, but he knows firsthand the challenges of getting a college education.
In that spirit, Herbert V. Johnson established the Herbert V. Johnson Family Scholarship to support the education of the descendants of Sarah and Jessie Johnson. The scholarship award can be used to cover tuition, room and board, and textbooks, as set forth below.
Eligible Recipients
High school seniors and current students at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university or vocational/technical school who meet the following criteria:
- Must be a descendant of Sarah and Jessie Johnson, including blended family members because of marriage and/or adoption
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must be seventeen (17) years of age or older at the time of application
- Must be attending (or demonstrate eligibility to attend) an accredited community college, technical college, or university
- Must take a minimum of 15 class credit hours per semester
- Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above
*Scholarship recipients may reapply in subsequent years but must requalify each year. However, the highest priority will be given to existing scholarship recipients in the selection process over new applicants, provided they maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 with passing grades in all courses.
Scholarship Amount
Up to $20,000 (a total of 4 scholarships will be awarded). This is a “last-dollar” scholarship. This means that the scholarship covers the remaining amount of tuition, textbooks, room and board that the student owes after all other financial aid, such as grants and other scholarships, have been applied. The scholarship amount of up to $20,000 is split between the fall and spring semesters.
