Samsung Scholarship

Amount: Up to $10,000. About: Administered by The American Legion, the Samsung American Legion Scholarship is meant for the direct descendants of a “wartime U.S. military veteran who served on active duty during at least one of the periods of war officially designated as eligibility dates for American Legion membership” (“Eligible Military Veteran”). Each year, the program awards $10,000 each to 10 National Scholars, $5,000 each to 10 National Runners-Up, and $1,250 each to remaining Department Finalists. The awards may be used for undergraduate studies and applied toward tuition, books, fees, and room and board. Winners are selected based on a scoring rubric that takes into account their academic record, school involvement, and community service. Applicants must be between their junior and senior years of high school who are attending either an American Legion Boys State or American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program and are a direct descendant ( i.e., a child, grandchild, great grandchild, stepchild, and legally adopted child) – of an Eligible Military Veteran. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 (local time) of Day 1 of their respective American Legion Boys State or American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program.
