The Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program helps pay for students’ bachelor’s degrees before they join a branch of the military. Students must be appointed by an elected Texas official. To be appointed, applicants must be on track to graduate or have graduated high school with the Distinguished Achievement Program, meet a high school GPA requirement of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, have achieved at least a 1070 on the SAT and/or a 23 on the ACT, and be ranked in the top third of their graduating class. To receive a scholarship, applicants must be registered with Selective Service or be exempt, be enrolled and in good standing in a Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program or another undergraduate officer commissioning program, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and be willing to enter into a written agreement with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).
